New Modern Indian Restaurant Opens in Bushwick

Curry in Handi (@curryinhandi) is a new halal restaurant putting modern twists on Indian food classics. The food was so delicious and we really enjoyed every bite. They have a halal bar and are serving up some really tasty drinks, including these smoking mojitos which we thought were so cool.

Food: 9/10
For starters, we got the samosa chaat, mixed combination platter, and lasuni gobi pops. The samosa chaat and combo platter were really good and paired well with the sauces provided. We also normally don’t order many vegetarian dishes however we were most impressed with the lasuni gobi pops! We don’t even like cauliflower like that but these - these were spectacular. For entrees we got the baby lamb chops, chicken cafreal, chicken madras, saag paneer, and banana leaves macchi. We opted for naan to eat the curries with, and chose garlic naan and laccha parata. The tandoori baby lamb chops were so tender and had the perfect amount of kick to them. The chicken cafreal was very unique however we thought it could use just a tiny bit more salt. We never had green chicken before! We also thought the banana leaves macchi was super unique and the banana leaf made the salmon very moist and packed with flavor. For dessert, we got the gulab ice cream (made with real rose petals!) and a rich orange panna cotta! If you never had panna cotta before, this is definitely the place to get it as they don’t use any gelatin at all and it was creamy and sweet.

The prices here are pretty standard . Apps are roughly $5-$11 and entrees are roughly $10-$23.

Atmosphere: 10/10
The ambiance is elevated and sleek, and very aesthetically pleasing. It felt very posh. Can seat about 35 people. They have a backdrop wall for photo ops, and a booth and table set up which we really liked.

Service: 10/10
The waiter and owner were so attentive to guests and made sure everyone was always satisfied! Food came out quickly and piping hot.
