The Cheesiest (and Halal-est) Mac And Cheese in NYC

Mac and cheese is one of America’s favorite duos. We’ve curated a list of halal mac and cheese in NYC (in no particular order).

Addy’s BBQ

Addy’s side Mac n Cheese goes for $8 (halal beef bacon $3 extra) that’s served in a hot cast-iron pan made for sharing. It’s a big portion for the price and honestly, we couldn’t get enough of it when we tried it. It’s a must-order when visiting Addy’s. The cheese is so gooey and full of flavor. It’s a whole meal itself because you’d probably be full by the time you order any entrees.

The Gully

The Gully’s Chicken Tikka Mac and Cheese took NYC by storm because of its almost-blasphemous combination of two fatty and heavy dishes. But guess what! It worked out for the better because this cult favorite, cheese-pullin’, mac and cheese has become one of the most popular items on the menu.

It has the smooth richness that Chicken Tikka has but still contains that sharpness you would taste from cheddar in mac and cheese and it’s definitely not overwhelming. The dish itself goes for $10 in a small, Indian aluminum kadai dish that’s got toasted breadcrumbs on the top.

Black Nile

Black Nile’s baked mac and cheese is on another level. It tastes fancy and sophisticated almost like the ones you’d see on some high dining food editorial. The burnt bits adds such a salivating touch. It’s only served as a side portion because it’s meant to be served with a main dish however the smaller portion isn’t THAT bad. Their main dishes are good too. You’ll be full before you know it.

S’MAC

Though this isn’t a halal restaurant, they do offer vegetarian friendly mac and cheese dishes that are free of animal rennet. The All-American style is a blend of American and cheddar cheeses that make a gooey and savory concoction that comes with three main sizes. It comes on a hot skillet given with a fitted mit to cover the handle in a wooden dish.
